Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss: The Underlying Cause
Weight gain could be a symptom, not the disease.
Hypnotherapy for weight loss might seem like a Band-Aid solution. After all, what could hypnotherapy or any of its affiliated treatments, like NLP, have to do with meaningful dieting, exercise or any tried-and-true weight loss tool? The concrete answer is shocking for some, yet for others it is a blessed epiphany. That all-important "ah-ha!" moment of clarity which brings everything into focus makes success possible.
What causes Weight Gain?
To really understand and achieve any goal, be it running a marathon, cessation of a bad habit or weight loss, one really needs to understand the driving forces that motivate change. Conversely, it is equally important to identify those undesirable behaviors which bind their effects to daily life.
In this light it is easy to understand that weight loss is more than the sum of calories consumed or burned. Extra pounds around the midsection and thighs are not always accumulated because they belong to a Ho-Ho-snarfing couch potato. At least as often as not, if not more, the real cause of unwanted bulk is attributed to factors well outside the kitchen.
Stress is a major cause of weight gain. Who hasn’t turned stress into a four-course meal of potato chips, cookies, gummy worms and slice after slice of warm, buttery bread? Eating as a way of escaping from stress is a very common coping technique. It is not a healthy one. This fact is well-known, but when backed against the wall in a fight-or-flight scenario, the subconscious mind will take over and put the most relief-inducing coping mechanisms into place. This might mean spending extra time in the candy aisle at the local grocer, or picking up a convenience dinner instead of cooking in. It might also mean cutting "unnecessary" time drains like gym visits short in order to catch up on other, more essential tasks like work.
What causes Diets to Fail?
To put the body back into balance and land it on a scale reading that's more likable and healthy, it is necessary to spend time on nutritious meal planning and exercise routines. That is only a piece of a much larger puzzle. If the real reasons behind the weight gain are not addressed, little else matters.
Look around the diet industry. There are literally hundreds of different diets claiming to be the real deal, promising relief and weight loss. They all do when followed, yet they all fail in the end because the weight climbs right back on board when the dieter returns to non-dieting life. In this life, the real problems still exist and result in diet failure a hundred times over. There is no need to further illustrate this point.

No matter what bland, sugarless, fat-free diet is followed to the "T," it will never effect the changes in the subconscious necessary to sustain success. The problem is not the food; it is the mind's thoughts and self-talk about it (or about oneself) that really shape our weight.
