How many times have you started setting a goal, only to abandon it a short time later – such as setting a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and joining a gym, only to stop going in February?
Achieving our goals should require work, but it doesn’t have to impossible! Our ability to achieve our goals is largely influenced by our mindset. The right mindset will keep you moving forward and making progress towards your goals despite mistakes or obstacles.
The Right Mindset
In her book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success,” Stanford psychology professor Carol S. Dweck proposes that everyone’s mindsets falls into two categories – fixed or growth. In a fixed mindset, you view your talents, abilities, and habits as fixed – that your fate is sealed. To reach our goals, we need a growth mindset – where you see yourself as a work in progress and your future open to possibilities.
