From the moment you wake up every day, so much of what you accomplish depends on your state of mind. Specifically, if you choose to carry a strong positive attitude, you always will be more effective than if you choose to reluctantly approach your day.
So you have a choice to make every day: Will you have a positive attitude or a negative one? Either way, it’s the same you. The only difference is your approach, and ultimately only you control it. Negative outside influences may try to change how you feel, but they cannot do so if you don’t let them. Choose to smile.
By consciously adopting a positive outlook, it in turn will affect how you look, what you say and what you do. It affects how you feel physically and mentally, and it affects how successful you are in achieving your goals. What could be more important?
For example, think about how the right attitude can carry to be better at your job.
If you are positive in your approach, it helps in so many ways:
1. How you learn – Tell yourself you are capable of learning something new, rather than doubting whether you can. If you’re convinced you can do something, there’s no reason you can’t.
2. Enthusiasm – If you’re always looking forward to going to work instead of dreading it, you will have much more fun. Doing is much easier when you eliminate the stress of negative thoughts.
3. Doing your best – You will always be happy with yourself if you pour 100 percent of your effort into something. That’s all you ever can ask.
4. Growing mentally – Saying “I can’t do it” will only keep you locked in your comfort zone. Learning anything is about expanding your physical and mental horizons. A positive attitude is crucial for this.
5. Seizing opportunity – The next time you have a chance to challenge yourself, throw your whole heart into it. You’ll be surprised what you’re capable of.
6. Sense of humor – It’s much easier to see the humor in the world, and in yourself, if you’re not sulking. There’s a reason they say laughter is the best medicine; potentially pressure-filled situations are much easier to handle if you can laugh in between.
7. Seeing others’ points of view – If you’re comfortable in your own skin, it is much easier to see people’s advice as helpful rather than as criticism intended to put you down.
8. Cooperating with others – As the saying goes, “you catch more flies with honey.” To put it another way, people who exude positive energy get a much better response from others. This is a big part of being a good listener and a good leader.
